There is nothing quite like a fresh wrinkle red valve cover on a high revving Honda K series engine build. Enter the KPower Industries Valve Cover modified specifically for the tight hood clearances!
If you're swapping a K24 into your NA Miata (1990-1997) and want to keep the factory hood, our modified valve cover is essential. Previously, fitting a K24 required either an aftermarket hood or a cutout in the hood skin. With our cover, the engine fits beneath the stock hood skin with only minor trimming of the hood skeleton—preserving the original exterior appearance for a clean, factory look.
Our valve covers start as either new or used cores, carefully modified for optimal clearance. First, we machine the front edge to a precise profile—providing just enough space for the timing chain and guide while ensuring hood clearance. Next, a laser-cut aluminum plate is welded over the cut section and meticulously smoothed. The covers are then hot-tanked, paint-stripped, blasted, and finished with a durable, factory-style Honda wrinkle red powder coat. Finally, each cover is thoroughly cleaned to remove any debris, and the text is ground to reveal bare metal, achieving that distinct OEM Honda look.
New for 2025! To help prevent pesky engine oil from escaping during high G-load conditions on the racetrack, we’ve developed a full proof solution. Unlike competitor options that place valve cover vents in unbaffled areas allowing uncontrolled oil to escape, we make the factory baffle plate removable and we modify the plate itself which creates a natural drainage path. This allows accumulated oil above the plate to return to the engine instead of escaping through the breather vent.
The result? Better oil retention, proper ventilation, and minimal oil accumulation in a catch can system—keeping your engine performing at its best.

If you’d like us to supply you with a new valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals, those can be added to your order as well.
- This valve cover must be paired with the smaller upper timing chain guide from the early K series engines, part number 14540-PRB-A01. The newer chain guides are too large and will result in damage to the valve cover.

We cannot accept cores that were previously powder coated! Paint is okay, but powder coat is much more time consuming to strip.

Frequently Asked Questions:
My hood still touches even with this valve cover installed. What's the best solution? Even with this cover installed, hood clearance is still extremely tight so recommend customers purchase our Miata subframe spacers to gain another 1/4 inch of clearance. Generally this is not a problem, but every chassis is different. K20 engines are approx. 3/4 inch shorter than K24 engines, which means you will have more clearance between valve cover and hood on a build utilizing a K20 engine block.
Can I get a custom color? Sorry, since we do not do the powder coating in house, we do not offer custom colors. Please email us about an uncoated option so customers can have custom colors done themselves.
Can I have my exact valve cover back? It’s too hard to keep track of which specific cover belongs to whom throughout the entire process so you will most likely receive a different cover. If you’re looking for a specific feature (for example, text that says “Honda” vs. “Honda Motor Co.”) please put that in the special instructions and we’ll accommodate it if possible.
Can I send in my K-Tuned valve cover to be modified? At this time we are not modifying any aftermarket covers, mainly for the reasons above.
Will you weld on AN bungs for my catch can? We aren’t offering this service, so your best option would be to order the uncoated cover and then modify it any way you like.
